Apple design their products to be as sleek and sexy as possible – and they  succeed! The problem with this though, is that they are not particularly easy to hold on to. The rounded corners and glossy materials slide easily out of your grip, and I'll ashamedly admit I dropped mine at least a couple of times within the first week. That was, however, before I bought a case! While providing a good grip on your iPhone it can also afford it some protection so, should you still manage to drop it, survival is a little more likely. A extremely good value case is the Metro, made by Macally.

iPhone iPod

This case surrounds your iPhone, attaching and locking safe with a satisfying click. It then acts as a sort of armour, protecting the back, sides and corners of your phone (the most likely place for knocks and scratches). Likewise, it fits the original iPhone too. There is also a transparent screen protector included for the front, in case your phone gets in a fight with a bunch of keys in your pocket. The case is ribbed which, together with the added grip provided by the matte material the case is made out of, gives plenty of grip so you will be able to hold on securely! Coincidently, the material used in construction is ABS, a type of thermoplastic known for its rigidity and strength, which it will retain across a wide range of temperatures and humidity, ensuring your iPhone will be protected no matter how hot (or cold) it gets! (-25° all the way to 60°!)

You would most definitely want to apply the provided screen protector, as the case does not wrap around the front. In fact it does not even protrude over the front at all, meaning if you put your phone down on the front it will be resting directly on the screen. Overall though, the Metro is a very good value case, affording your iPhone some much needed protection and letting you hold onto it much more securely. It's very thin too, so it will still slide into your pocket without snagging.
